POLISH VIOLIN IN PARIS

A new bilingual book has been published: ‘Polish Violin in the Musée de la Musique in Paris’ by Jan Bartoś.

This Polish-English publication is a monograph of an instrument in the collection of the Musée de la Musique in Paris, which for years was considered to be of unknown origin. Jan Bartoś’s research confirmed the Polish origin of the violin and allowed for its attribution to be established.

The publication contains biographical information about the old Polish masters, a complete description of the instrument with its exact dimensions, a description of the process and results of the research carried out, and extensive photographic documentation. The book is accompanied by a poster of the instrument with photographs in their original size.

The book also includes forewords written by Jean-Philippe Échard, the curator of the string instruments collection of the Musée de la Musique Paris, and Honorata Stalmierska, the Head of the Department of Artistic Violin Making at the Academy of Music in Poznan and the President of the Włodzimierz Kamiński and Helena Harajda Art of Violin Making Foundation.

THE ART OF VIOLIN MAKING FESTIVAL

Work on the festival has begun! The team is working intensively so that we can come together in October 2023 for the Włodzimierz Kamiński Art of Violin Making Festival. The festival programme includes an exhibition of Polish Artists Violin Makers, an international student competition, a workshop and an international conference. Besides the Foundation, the main organisers are The Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań and the Union of Polish Artists Violin Makers.

RESEARCH ON VARNISH

In September 2022, exciting new research challenges await us. In Paris, we met varnish expert Balthazar Soulier from the University of the Arts in Bern in his Atelier Cels in Paris. Soon we will have the opportunity to look deeper into the varnish of four Polish instruments from the 17th and 18th centuries.

THE ART OF VIOLIN MAKING COLLECTION

The Włodzimierz Kamiński and Helena Harajda Art of Violin Making Collection is a unique collection of instruments mainly from Poland, but also from other authors from all over Europe. The Collection includes instruments belonging to both the Foundation and private owners. Some of the instruments are intended for research, while others will be loaned to musicians.

We are currently working on presenting the collection on the website and launching an instrument rental service for musicians. If you would like to be kept up to date on the progress of our work, please write to us to receive our Foundation Newsletter.
